Dantarian September 26 ’11

2011 Theme – Reach Within to Embrace Humanity

September 26, 2011

September is New Generations Month. It could be called “the month of our future” because investing in our youth is our future. Rotarians take pride in the fact that we have youth programs for just about every age group with Rotarians serving as active, caring sponsors. Source

Today September 26 – A big Danville WELCOME to Dr Dexter Quiggle who will talk about a Rotary Dental Clinic in Tanzania.
Greeter – Evelyn Walker    RIS – Tita Escalada

Bob Beaton – Following a visit to the Doctor for chest pains, Bob had open heart bypass surgery last week. The good news is that he did very well, there were no complications and he is now recuperating at the John Muir Medical Center in Concord.

20110919JoanBuchananLast Week – Assemblymember  Joan Buchanan gave the club a sobering update on the issues facing the State of California

Last Week – Food Bank Activity – Someone can give us an update today.

Next Week – Speaker: Jim Hoyt Friends of the Orphans
Greeter: Valerie Vicente

Board Actions – Pres Bob reports that the club is still weighing options for this year’s dictionary project. The Club is underwriting Debbie Gibbs’ Leukemia Walk for $500. The club will purchase one AED defibrillator for one of the three local schools lacking an AED, and will talk to the other clubs in the area about purchasing the other two.

Next Weekend – District Conference is October 7 & 8 in Monterey.  Currently registered: Pres Bob, Justin Clark, David & Tiffany Roby, Joyce Chiu, Jim Cambier, Gary Vilhauer, Vic G. The event hotel is sold out but there are many desireable hotels close by. There’s still time to register for all or any part of the conference. If you can spare a Saturday, sign up for Saturday lunch, come in for the breakouts that begin at 10am, depart after the afternoon breakouts. Or arrive Friday afternoon for the party, stay overnight, go to breakfast and breakouts. Or come down for the magic show on Saturday night, stay over, enjoy Monterey on Sunday morning before returning home. Lots of options at a great destination.
