Dantarian August 8 ’11

2011 Theme – Reach Within to Embrace Humanity

August is Membership Month

August 8, 2011

Today – A big Danville WELCOME to Beri Kasper who will talk to us about Camp Venture. Also in attendance are our Camp Royal Students who will tell us about their experience in June. Today’s Greeter is Pete Kaldveer.

Last Week –District Governor Dave (Dave the Rave) Dacus met with the Board before the club meeting and then visited with us at our regular meeting. DG Dave’s spouse Tara gave a short presentation on her project, Shaken Baby Syndrome and encouraged the club to put at least one training doll into an appropriate health agency. DG Dave encourages all members to increase foundation giving by looking outside of Rotary for support from friends and neighbors in the community.

More Paul Harris Fellows – Long time Danville Rotarian and current Honorary Member George Filice came in to pick up PHFs  for his son Robert and daughter Dr Peggy. Past Pres Bob Chace picked up his 2nd PHF which is awarded to his spouse Debbie. Dr Don Schmitt picked up his first PHF. Thanks to all for your support of the Rotary Foundation!

And now a few words about the Foundation – This week’s Foundation Thought is about … Our mission. ―Doing Good in the World is more than a motto. It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder. It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have. Our Foundation exists to support the good that we can do through Rotary. It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective. Because of our Foundation we can, very simply, do more of our Rotary work.‖ — 2004-05 RI President Glenn E. Estess Sr.

Long time Danville Rotarian and current Honorary Member Bob Brown also made an appearance last week. It’s always great to see our Honorary Members when they can drop in.

Pres Bob confessed to cutting the backpack project to purchase a new car. Notwithstanding a logical thesis as to why the cut was inadvertant, Recognition Czar Jim Cambier dinged the Pres’s wallet.

As Recognition Czar, Jim Cambier offered the room a one time shot at a recognition free year for a modest $100, said offer snapped up by only two or three astute Rotarians in the room, all others forgetting the  axiom – Caveat Non-emptor (Non-buyer beware). The saga has begun!
